Is Mike Evans playing today? Injury update, fantasy advice for 49ers WR in Week 3

The San Francisco 49ers have enough issues with injuries, but there was one more added to the list last week in wide receiver Mike Evans .

Evans sustained a hip injury that forced his early exit from the Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins .

The 49ers wideout was only able to turn in a single limited practice this week, and he has drawn the questionable tag ahead of kickoff on Sunday afternoon.

Here's the latest update on Evans' status for the contest against the Arizona Cardinals .

Evans is expected to play against the Cardinals in Week 3, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler , who reported so on Sunday morning.

"49ers WR Mike Evans (questionable, hip) plans to play for the 49ers on Sunday vs Arizona, per source," Fowler wrote.

This was pretty much the expectation all along, even after Evans' questionable tag.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the Week 2 game that Evans could have closed out the contest if it was closer, so the 49ers held him out as a precaution more than anything else.

Through two weeks of the 2026 season, Evans has nine catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.

According to Fantasy Pros , he ranks as WR22 overall with those numbers, which puts him on the map as a flex option on a weekly basis.

This week, Evans draws a matchup against a Cardinals defense that is tied for the third-most fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers.

Arizona is also surrendering two touchdowns per game to the position, which is tied for the most in the NFL. That's important to note because of Evans' lackluster yardage totals.
