North Texas' Stunning Roster, Coaching Staff Turnover Spotlighted During CFB Opener vs. Indiana

The North Texas Mean Green football team is a veritable Ship of Theseus.

The 2026 roster didn't return a single starter from last season's team, per the Fox broadcast of Saturday's matchup against Indiana, has 72 entirely new players on its roster and lost 18 coaches and 19 players to Oklahoma State alone, as Eric Morris led quite the exodus when he took over as the Cowboys' new head coach.

The Mean Green then completely rebuilt the roster under new head coach Neal Brown, and that new-look unit was tasked with facing the defending national champions to start the 2026 season.

Roster turnover has become the norm in college football during the transfer portal era, but North Texas was certainly at the extreme end of the trend this offseason.
