Week 7 is the most important week of the 2026 college football season to date.

A pair of top-10 matchups in Bloomington and Provo headline a Saturday with six Top 25 showdowns.

The College Football Playoff hierarchy will change based on the results across those six contests, starting with the Ohio State Buckeyes' trip to face the Indiana Hoosiers.

Ohio State-Indiana is the only top-five clash on the docket and it will determine the favorite to win the Big Ten.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish put their perfect record on the line against the BYU Cougars in one of two top-10 games they have this season.

BYU arguably has more to prove because of where it plays, and if pulls off the upset, it will cause a major rearrangement at the top of the rankings.

The weather is forecasted to be ideal for both of the top-10 clashes.

Ohio State plays its third Top 25 road game of the campaign in Bloomington on Saturday.

The Buckeyes fell to the Texas Longhorns in September and then beat the Iowa Hawkeyes two weeks ago.

The matchup with Indiana is the toughest game left on OSU's schedule now that the Oregon Ducks are out of the Top 25.

Saturday provides Indiana with its first real test of the season. The Hoosiers picked up six straight wins against unranked foes.

The Buckeyes are the more battle-tested team at this juncture of the season and they have the best player on either roster in wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

The final result could come down to something as simple as how well Smith performed.

Julian Sayin has been the feeding the ball at will to the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL draft. Smith has 916 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He had 164 yards against Texas and 206 yards versus Iowa.

Indiana's defense allows 188.5 passing yards per game and it ranks fifth in scoring defense at 11.8 points allowed per contest.

However, the Hoosiers haven't faced an offense as explosive as Ohio State's, so there's reason to be a little skeptical of those numbers.

Saturday is also a prove-it game for Hoosiers quarterback Josh Hoover. He has 17 passing touchdowns and zero interceptions, but he had five picks in two games against ranked teams with the TCU Horned Frogs last season.

Although Indiana is the reigning national champion, Ohio State is the more proven quantity at this point in the season. It's easier to trust the Buckeyes to win and gain control of the Big Ten title race.

Saturday's big primetime clash is all about BYU.

The Cougars play in the Big 12, which is viewed as a far weaker conference than the Big Ten and SEC, despite having three teams in the top 15.

BYU has an excellent home-field advantage in Provo, but it is a 10.5-point underdog and doesn't have star running back LJ Martin due to an injury.

The Cougars have also struggled in the last few weeks. They battled to get past TCU on the road two weeks ago and they weren't overly dominant against the Iowa State Cyclones last week at home.

Notre Dame comes to Utah with six double-digit wins on its resume. Its allowed over 13 points just once this season.

The Fighting Irish backed up all of the preseason hype around them, and no one would be surprised if they go into Provo and crush BYU.

A win, or even a close loss, for BYU would sway the national perspective of it as a CFB Playoff contender.

Moving the ball on the Notre Dame could be incredibly difficult for Bear Bachmeier and the Cougars.

The Irish have the allowed the fewest yards per game in the FBS and they have the fourth-best scoring defense.
