Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor will miss the remainder of the 2026 season.

Taylor addressed the situation in a statement, expressing "I love this team" and his commitment to it "won't change":

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported the sophomore could undergo surgery on his injured toe as early as Wednesday.

Taylor turned heads when the Bulldogs won their first four games. He threw for 1,192 yards and 14 touchdowns to two interceptions during that stretch.

In mid-September, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman spoke to one Big Ten coach who called Taylor "the best QB I've seen in college football in a few years."

The 6'4" signal-caller was injured in the victory over Missouri, though, and that preceded his uneven showing in a 56-23 blowout loss to Alabama. He was sidelined for the 31-0 shutout to LSU two weeks later and unsuccessfully tried to return against Oklahoma. He exited early as Mississippi State suffered a third straight defeat.

Coach Jeff Lebby was unable to provide much insight on Taylor's status during a press conference Monday.

"We're still in the process of looking at everything," he told reporters . "He is doing good. His spirits are good, but as we continue to move forward, I think we'll know a lot more here in the next 48 hours."

Needless to say, being without Taylor is a massive blow for the offense, and simply qualifying for a bowl isn't guaranteed. Mississippi State will be a big favorite over Tennessee Tech on Nov. 21 but need to take down one of No. 11 Texas, Vanderbilt, Auburn or No. 12 Ole Miss in order to get to at least six wins.

Lebby will be counting on Parker Puckett to lead the offense over the final month.
