Paul Scholes identifies the only two Liverpool players he would have loved to have at Manchester United.

The legendary midfielder was a key member of the MUFC side that went on to dominate the English landscape for around two decades under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson.

During that era, Liverpool rarely competed for the Premier League title, and they didn't have many players that United envied.

However, the times vastly changed following Ferguson's retirement and the Reds' revival under Jurgen Klopp.

In the current day and age, most observers would agree that Liverpool have a more competitive squad than Man Utd, despite last season's struggles under Arne Slot.

However, Scholes hasn't been overly impressed by Andoni Iraola's men. So when asked which Liverpool players he would have liked to bring to Man Utd, he only named two.

"If we needed a player now, it would be Van Dijk. Or the keeper, I like the keeper [Alisson] as well. But apart from that, nobody," said the retired midfielder in his sit-down with Darts icon Luke Littler (via Metro ).

Having both joined the club in 2018, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker are two of Liverpool's longest-serving players.

Despite turning 35 in the summer, the Dutchman is still regarded as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League.

As for Alisson, he remains the first choice for club and country. This selection is hardly a surprise, as Scholes had recently suggested that Man Utd need an upgrade on their current No.1, Senne Lammens, who has been under scrutiny after a shaky start to the campaign.

The two Liverpool idols have been among the most reliable Premier League stars over the past decade.

Man Utd were heavily ridiculed for splashing the cash on Harry Maguire, thinking he could replicate Van Dijk's success at Anfield.

The Netherlands international might be over the hill, but even at his advanced playing age, many would argue he would outperform the majority, if not all, of Man Utd's defenders.

As for Alisson, he might be one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the league, but at this stage, we wouldn't trade Lammens for him, as the latter represents a younger option, and had an excellent first season at Old Trafford.
