Respect the rival and try to do our best to win the game.” Forlán also praised the growth of Indian football while warning his players about the threat in front of them: “The ISL has been getting better and better. When you have these kind of international games for India, it's good for them to see the level and where they can improve in their game.” “We know they have some good talented players and we have to be careful.”.India vs Uruguay Live Score: Gurpreet gets another shot after Brazil howler Khalid Jamil has backed Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to start again despite the criticism that came his way after India’s 0-4 defeat to Brazil, where mistakes from the goalkeeper allowed two goals. Their first recognised meeting came during the 1982 Nehru Cup at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where Uruguay won 3–1 despite Manas Bhattacharjee scoring for India. The countries met again in 2001 during the Millennium Super Soccer Cup in Kochi, although Uruguay fielded a B team on that occasion and still secured a 3–0 victory. The latest fixture also carries the added significance of Uruguay's return to Kolkata under Diego Forlán, who knows the country well from his time with Mumbai City FC in the ISL. For India, the match completes a remarkable international window in which the Blue Tigers have faced Panama, Brazil and Uruguay, giving Jamil's squad three opponents associated with the 2026 FIFA World Cup within the space of a fortnight..India vs Uruguay Live Score: Forlan warns Uruguay that India can cause damage Forlán has already seen enough of India to know that Uruguay cannot afford to switch off in Kolkata, particularly after watching the Blue Tigers compete against Brazil despite the eventual 0–4 scoreline. The Uruguay coach pointed towards India's combinations, long balls and individual quality while warning his players that giving the hosts too much freedom could create problems. “You could see some combinations, some long balls, some good players,” Forlán said. “If you give them time and space, they can damage you, and they can play well. So you have to respect everybody.” Uruguay arrive with plenty of quality of their own despite several absences, with Darwin Núñez, Ronald Araújo, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Torreira among the established names available. Federico Valverde will miss the match because of a left-ankle injury, while Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Sebastián Cáceres and Brian Rodríguez are also unavailable..India vs Uruguay Live Score: Diego Forlan returns to India with Uruguay Diego Forlán has a little more familiarity with Indian football than most international coaches arriving in Kolkata, having spent six months with Mumbai City FC during the 2016 Indian Super League season. The former Uruguay striker scored five goals in 12 appearances for Mumbai City and shared the dressing room with Sunil Chhetri before eventually returning to India almost a decade later in a very different role. Forlán took charge of Uruguay in August following Marcelo Bielsa's departure after the team's group-stage exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His tenure began with a 1–3 defeat against Japan, but Uruguay responded strongly by beating Korea Republic 4–1, with Darwin Núñez scoring twice. Forlán has also been careful not to treat India as an easy opponent after watching the Blue Tigers against Brazil. “There’s never an easy game in football,” he said. “We will try to do our best and enjoy our game tomorrow against India.”.India vs Uruguay Live Score: Khalid Jamil wants India ready for Uruguay's physical battle India head coach Khalid Jamil knows Uruguay will ask different questions from the ones Brazil posed on Saturday, particularly with La Celeste bringing their physical strength alongside considerable technical quality. Jamil expects his players to match that intensity rather than simply trying to survive the entire evening inside their own defensive third. “As I said, they are physically strong, so we have to match them. Tactically also, they are good,” Jamil said in his pre-match press conference on Monday. He also insisted that India's approach will depend on how the match develops rather than follow one rigid plan from the first whistle. “Depending on the situation, we must act. If required to defend, we will defend. If it is required to attack, we will go for it,” the India coach added. The Blue Tigers will now look to combine the discipline shown against Panama with the threat they produced in transition..India vs Uruguay Live Score: Blue Tigers face another South American heavyweight after Brazil test India's historic international window reaches its final match in Kolkata, with two-time world champions Uruguay waiting after the Blue Tigers faced Panama and Brazil earlier in the break. Khalid Jamil's side held 44th-ranked Panama to a 1–1 draw in Bengaluru before suffering a 0–4 defeat against five-time world champions Brazil at the Salt Lake Stadium. Ryan Williams has been India's standout performer across the two matches, scoring against Panama and continuing to threaten against Brazil, while Manvir Singh also caught the eye in Saturday's defeat. Uruguay bring another level of experience, sitting 20th in the FIFA rankings compared with India's 138th position. The visitors also have players such as Darwin Núñez, Ronald Araújo, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Torreira and José María Giménez, although Federico Valverde will miss the match because of a left-ankle injury.
