Remembering former Tennessee football assistant coach Kippy Brown

Tennessee announced the passing of former football assistant coach Kippy Brown . He was 71.

"We mourn the passing of Kippy Brown, one of the greatest wide receivers coaches in Tennessee history," Tennessee announced Tuesday . "Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and former players."

Brown served three stints as wide receivers coach for the Vols from 1983-89, 1993-94 and 2009. A Sweetwater, Tennessee native, he helped establish Wide Receiver U at Tennessee.

Brown served as Tennessee's interim head coach after the Vols parted ways with Phillip Fulmer in 2008.

He also coached in the NFL, winning Super Bowl XLVIII with Seattle . Brown also coached with the Jets, Tampa Bay, Miami, Green Bay, Houston and Detroit.

The former Tennessee assistant coach played at Memphis and was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. Brown also coached at Memphis and Louisville in college.

Brown served as a head coach in the XFL with Memphis in 2001, compiling a 5-5 record.
