Drew Mestemaker, QB, Oklahoma State: +2200
Braden Atkinson, QB, Oregon State: +10000
Smith was the betting favorite to win the trophy heading into Saturday evening's matchup at USC, but Ohio State ended up suffering a 30-18 upset loss at the hands of the Trojans.
Smith caught 10 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown from backup quarterback Luke Fahey, although it wasn't enough to prevent the Buckeyes from falling to 6-2.
Meanwhile, Mensah and Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney improved their candidacy for the award with a Saturday night win at North Carolina.
Mensah finished 22-of-29 for 274 yards and three touchdowns without getting picked off in the 38-35 victory. Toney hauled in seven receptions for 75 yards and two scores.
A few early-season favorites included Arch Manning, who has struggled in his full season as Texas' full-time starting quarterback, and Oregon's Dante Moore, who has been ruled out for the season with a concussion.
That has allowed new candidates like Oregon State wide receiver Jesse Legree and Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker to climb the betting odds over the last few weeks.
Notre Dame's CJ Carr remains among the favorites after leading his team to a Saturday win over Navy as well.
Oregon State's matchup with Fresno State will be a game to keep an eye on as Week 9 action continues.
