No. 1 Georgia suffered a 27-24 upset loss at the hands of Auburn in Saturday's SEC clash.

Auburn kicker Alex McPherson drilled a 34-yard field goal to give the Tigers a surprising victory as time expired in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 6-1.

With a loss to an Auburn squad that entered the contest with a 3-2 record to go along with a 1-2 mark in SEC play, Georgia is expected to fall in the next AP Top 25 poll.

After Texas was upset by unranked Oklahoma on Oct. 10, the Longhorns dropped from No. 1 to No. 7. It isn't hard to imagine the Bulldogs experiencing a similar slide.

Head coach Kirby Smart's squad started off strong on Saturday, holding a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Auburn eventually tied the score midway through the second, as Tigers receiver Chas Nimrod made an incredible grab in the end zone.

The Bulldogs attempted to jump in front once again on their next drive, but missed a field goal.

Auburn eventually took its first lead of the game on the team's next possession, as McPherson connected on a 49-yard field goal.

Auburn gained a two-score lead to open the second half, starting the third quarter with a 76-yard drive that ended with a touchdown run by quarterback Byrum Brown.

Georgia cut the deficit to seven points early in the fourth quarter with a field goal, though.

After both teams traded punts, the Bulldogs went on a lengthy touchdown drive of their own. Georgia went 96 yards as Gunner Stockton connected with London Humphreys for a short score.

The Bulldogs' defense forced another Auburn punt, although Stockton fumbled the ball while attempting to lead his squad on a game-winning drive.

The Tigers capitalized on the opportunity, driving down to Georgia's 16-yard line before McPherson's kick sealed the final result.

The Bulldogs finished with 440 total yards, but Stockton's three turnovers were costly and ultimately prevented his team from staying unbeaten.
