Texas football news: Steve Sarkisian's wild truth bomb on Tennessee injuries

On Saturday afternoon, the Texas football program improved to 4-0 on the 2026 college football season with a narrow road win over the Tennessee Volunteers. While the Longhorns nearly choked away this game at the end with a failed onside kick recovery, they ended up winning when a late Hail Mary attempt from Tennessee was batted down.

After the game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke on his team's physicality, which resulted in numerous Volunteers' injuries throughout the afternoon.

"I think they had eight guys get carted off, so I'm not sure who wrote the article today and what coach said, 'we weren't a physical football team.' They might want to write another article," he said, per On3 Sports on X, formerly Twitter, citing a previous article deeming that the Longhorns weren't physical.

While gloating in the number of players that an opponent had carted off the field is certainly not a great look, Texas sure did seem to bring the physicality on Saturday in Neyland Stadium, although it remains to be seen if their shaky performance will be enough to keep them at number one after the Georgia Bulldogs ' dominant win over the Oklahoma Sooners later in the day.

As previously mentioned, Texas now sits at 4-0 on the season, having already picked up two impressive wins against Ohio State and now Tennessee on the road, albeit with several key Volunteers players going down with injury, as Sarkisian referenced.

In any case, Texas will now have a week off before they next hit the field on October 10 for their rivalry game against Oklahoma at 3:30 pm ET.
