Premier League predictions: Chris Sutton v Dorking Wanderers manager Marc White - & AI

New Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has made a table-topping start, but will his 100% Premier League record survive Sunday's short trip to Old Trafford?

"Marcus Rashford is fit and has looked a threat when I've seen him play," said BBC Sport football expert Chris Sutton. "Because of that, I can see Manchester United scoring.

"But United have conceded twice against Hull, Ipswich and Everton , so why wouldn't they ship goals against City too?"

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against AI, BBC Sport readers and a variety of guests.

For week four, he takes on Dorking Wanderers manager Marc White.

Seeing his club win a place in the Football League remains the aim for White, but reaching the Premier League feels a far more distant dream.

"For me the gulf in football is between the Premier League and some Championship clubs, and the rest," White told BBC Sport.

"The Premier League is still the elite place to be, and it's like being part of a financial institution when you are there, but you need to spend your money wisely.

"One big theory I have, if you flip it around the other way, is you would not want to get relegated from the Premier League.

"There are clubs in there, like Fulham or Bournemouth and Brentford , where arguably there are much bigger clubs than them in the Championship.

"That next manager is always so important for clubs of that size because, if they get it wrong and go down, some of them may never come back.

"The Championship is a little bit divided too. We do a lot of business with Charlton Athletic, and their finances, compared to the majority of that division, are nothing. There's no comparison between them and West Ham, for example. They are miles apart.

"Beyond that, there is not such a gap, but you can definitely put a thick border between the Championship and League One.

"I think that's why you see the likes of Bromley and Stockport go on the same journey from non-league that we are trying to make, and go up from League Two too. But then they get to League One and it is like the next bit is the tough bit."

Chris Sutton and Marc White were speaking to BBC Sport's Chris Bevan.

The AI predictions were generated using Microsoft Copilot Chat - we simply asked the tool to 'predict this weekend's Premier League scores'.

This is a hard one to start with because, while Aston Villa still haven't won or scored in the Premier League, they got a good win over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Nicolas Jackson got off the mark in that game and, although his finishing can be erratic, he's the kind of player who will mature and get better every season. I think he will do well for them.

Forest are also yet to win. I know there was controversy over Neco Williams' disallowed goal in their draw against Spurs last time out but I do think they got the decision right in the end.

This is going to be close and I am tempted to go for another Forest draw, but Villa are obviously going to score in the Premier League at some point so I'll be brave and say they will edge it.

Marc's prediction: Villa have been turned inside-out over the summer, but they fall into that category of having a great manager and Unai Emery will stabilise them. 1-1

To say Bournemouth keep on throwing it away is a bit harsh, but they have been ahead in all three of their league games so far and have not won any of them.

Will they see this one through? I am not sure, but I like the way Cherries boss Marco Rose talks when he has been interviewed after games. He is a bright guy and he will get things right.

I was spot on with my prediction for Brentford 's 1-1 draw with Sunderland last week, but the Bees were actually lucky to get a point in the end.

Brentford will play on the counter-attack here and Bournemouth will have a go at them, so this smells like a draw to me.

Marc's prediction: It's mad to think this was a League Two fixture in 2009, when Bournemouth almost went out of the Football League. With Brentford , it could be just a matter of time before Keith Andrews is seen as a manager who is desired by the big clubs. If he has another good season, someone will be in for him. 1-2

I have happy memories of this fixture because one of my three goals for Chelsea came against Hull, in the FA Cup.

Hull haven't conceded yet and they are the team I have been most wrong about so far this season.

With every passing week, they are putting more egg on my face [see the table based on Sutton's predictions at the bottom of the page] but it can't keep happening, can it?

It probably can, but I am still going for Chelsea to win this. The Tigers have defended brilliantly so far, but they are not going to keep out Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro.

Hull will defend ferociously but, as Chelsea showed in the Carabao Cup against Leeds on Wednesday, they have enough quality to play through teams who sit in; and, if they score first, then Hull will have to open up - that's my theory anyway.

The only thing I was unsure about was whether Hull would score too. Chelsea still seem to be a bit chaotic with the way they defend, and they have leaked a few goals, but I have given them a clean sheet. They need one.

Marc's prediction: It's a bit like Beauty and the Beast, this. Hull will be quite happy to be the beast, but there are some games where that won't work. With Chelsea 's front-line, this is one of them. 4-0

Crystal Palace picked up their first win under Pierre Sage last weekend, which was really important for them.

They have still got goals in their team, as they showed against Fulham , but it was quite an open game and they always look like they will concede a few too.

I covered Ipswich's defeat by Liverpool and what worries me a little bit is the way their manager Gary O'Neil saw that game.

He was overly positive about his team's performance and, while I know why he is doing it, you can't mask that they didn't match Liverpool and they were not creative enough in the final third either - I don't remember Alisson having to make a save of note.

This feels like an important game for Ipswich after two successive defeats but I don't know why I am thinking they will get a point because that's not going to happen, is it?

My first thought was that they will grind out a draw, but I've changed my mind and am going with Palace to take the points at home.

Marc's prediction: Palace are in the bracket of clubs who might be in trouble this year, but I have put this down as a draw because they have got that Selhurst Park thing going on. 1-1

I am covering this game for 5 Live and will be co-commentating with Ian Dennis.

For Fulham , the big talking point is their manager, and whether they will sink any lower under Alvaro Arbeloa. He will be under pressure until he gets his first Premier League win.

Fulham look a little bit lightweight to me and, while Cesar Palacios in midfield and Gonzalo Garcia up front have clearly got something about them, it is always going to be hard for any young player to hit the ground running when they are thrown into the Premier League, especially under a manager who is new too.

If you don't get off to a good start, you are going to be scrutinised. It is the same for every manager and, while Fulham have got some good attacking players, they are shipping goals at the other end.

To lead twice against Palace, who had also started the season poorly, and still lose makes this game even bigger for Arbeloa.

He is trying to play a high pressing game, and he also wants to dominate the ball, but at the highest level, which the Premier League is, if you are not on point with your press then teams will play through you.

Arbeloa needs a result to kickstart his season, or at least something to grab hold of, and I don't think it's impossible for them to get something at Anfield.

I certainly don't think Liverpool have cracked it after watching them win at Ipswich, and they will give up some chances with their high defensive line too.

Fulham will score, but the problem for Arbeloa is that Liverpool will score more.

Marc on why he follows Fulham : I went to watch Fulham as a really small kid, which was my first memory of 'big' football, standing on the terrace at Craven Cottage, and I still go there now whenever we're not playing. I am friends with the captain, Tom Cairney, so luckily I get to watch them quite a lot. They are quite a unique family club at that level and I really enjoy it, plus it's a good chance to watch Premier League football.

Marc's prediction: Fulham have done the opposite of what Brentford did when Thomas Frank left. They don't just have a new manager to replace Marco Silva, they have a new system and with new players. It's a big gamble. 3-1

This is absolutely massive for Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi. First and foremost, though, he needs to take a bit of responsibility for his side's poor results.

He blamed the Spurs strikers after their 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest , but at least he has got some in his squad.

I just find it wild that in a billion-dollar industry, which football is now, Everton got themselves in a position where they let Beto leave, knowing there was a possibility that Folarin Balogun might fail his medical and without having anyone else lined up.

Could they still go to Spurs and nick something? Absolutely. I am still not sure whether Tottenham being at home counts as an advantage.

But this game has a draw written all over it, and is actually an easy game to predict.

Spurs are a 'law of averages' team, or at least that's the way I see it. Eventually they have to score and eventually they have to win too, but I don't see both things happening this weekend.

Marc's prediction: Spurs have a new team but continue to frustrate their fans, while Everton just seem to go about their business. 2-2

This was a cracking game last season, which finished 2-2, and is arguably Arsenal 's toughest test so far in this campaign.

I really like Sunderland and their European campaign has not started yet so those extra games won't affect them here.

I feel like being brave and giving them a draw because they are well capable of taking a point off Arsenal , but the Gunners just have the ability to shut up shop when they need to, and they can get physical again if they need to.

Thinking about it, I can't really go against an Arsenal victory, because of the players they were able to bring on in last weekend's comeback win against Chelsea .

They have got A-list replacements everywhere they look and, if they need a goal against Sunderland , I can see them bringing someone on to get them one.

Marc's prediction: I'm a bit worried about Sunderland this season. They had a lot of momentum last year, and they also made a really good start. 1-3

Coventry played well against Manchester City and should have got something from the game, but didn't.

I can see them going toe-to-toe with Brighton , but it's dangerous to think they will get something this week just because they troubled Man City.

Brighton are a naturally attacking side, with some very good players. It will be hard to keep them out.

Marc's prediction: Clubs like Brighton are very astute. They know that these are the games to win - that's where their points come from. 0-2

I have got this result really badly wrong over the past couple of seasons, when I have tended to go for City, but I am not sure this time.

City are more methodical under Enzo Maresca, with the way that he builds play from the back - they won't be swashbuckling, put it that way.

I don't think he has changed much about his way of playing from when he was in charge at Chelsea , and United will be ready for that.

I really like United boss Michael Carrick and the way he does not get too carried away, win or lose.

Everton 's late equaliser would have felt like a loss last weekend, but United still haven't clicked in attack yet, and that's part of the problem for them.

Then I look at the goals they are shipping too, and wonder if they are really good enough to keep City out?

I am not so sure they are, but I also think they can hurt City.

City have made a brilliant start, with four wins out of four in all competitions since the Premier League got under way, but if they looked a little vulnerable against Coventry then United are going to cause them more problems.

Marc's prediction: I think I know the way this is going for United. Carrick has had that natural bounce that a former player is going to get but, long term, sustaining that is tough. For me, he could become a manager under pressure this year.

With City, it's a sign of a good manager for them to start like this under Maresca. I have them down as clear winners here. 0-2

Newcastle are the new counter-attack kings and I am expecting more of the same from them here.

It will be interesting to see how Leeds boss Daniel Farke tries to deal with that. He has been quite versatile with the way he has set his side up this season.

Leeds have shown a bit more steel in their league games too, and look well organised, but at the same time I don't know if they carry as much of an attacking threat as they did previously.

I probably still fancy Leeds more to win this because they are at home, but Newcastle showed plenty of fight against Bournemouth last week and this will probably end up in a draw too.

Marc's prediction: A Monday night thriller. 2-3

As Chris said after a successful week two, "it's not how you start the weekend, it's how you finish it".

It was the final few fixtures which decided the outcome this time too - only it wasn't Chris who took the victory in week three.

He was leading on Saturday night after eight of the weekend's 10 games had been played, but his guest, Kasabian frontman Serge Pizzorno, enjoyed a 'Super Sunday' with exact scores in both remaining games to snatch the overall win.

Chris ended up with six correct results, including one exact score, for a total of 90 points.

That was enough to beat the BBC readers, who managed four correct results with one exact score for a tally of 70 points, and also AI, which got three correct results and one exact score, giving it 60 points.

It was Serge who surged to victory, however, after correctly predicting Everton 's 2-2 draw with Manchester United and Arsenal 's 2-1 win over Chelsea .

He got four correct results but those two exact scores proved decisive, giving him a winning total of 100 points.

Everyone was right about only two of the fixtures - Liverpool 's win at Ipswich and Manchester City 's victory over Coventry.

There were three fixtures where none of our predictors picked the right outcome - the draws in Newcastle - Bournemouth and Brighton - Leeds , and Crystal Palace 's 3-2 win at Fulham .

From more than 37,000 predictions, only around 5,000 (14%) went for any sort of Palace win, and only 79 of you got the correct scoreline.
