Richarlison 's situation at Tottenham Hotspur continues to deteriorate, with the striker exploring legal avenues that could include terminating his contract as the Brazilian transfer window approaches its deadline.

The 29-year-old finds himself in an uncertain position at the North London club, having been omitted from Roberto De Zerbi's 25-man Premier League squad, rendering him unable to feature. Spurs were limited to naming just 17 non-homegrown players in their registered league squad, a situation that cannot be rectified until the next English transfer window opens.

De Zerbi revealed to football.london that Richarlison has repeatedly requested to leave the club this summer, prompting the Italian to select Xavi Simons ahead of the forward, despite the Dutchman facing several more months on the sidelines as he continues his rehabilitation from the anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in April.

Richarlison and his representatives are reportedly examining his legal options, which could encompass filing a request to cancel his contract following his omission from Tottenham's Premier League squad, though it is understood that any such action would prove challenging.

This comes amid reported interest from the club he supported as a child - Vasco da Gama - with the Brazilian transfer window set to close on Friday in his home country.

The forward, who led Tottenham's scoring charts last campaign and featured in their season opener at Brentford , is under contract until next summer, though the club holds an option to extend that agreement by an additional year beyond the deal he penned upon his £60 million ($72.6 million) arrival from Everton in 2022.

He rejected a return to his previous club this summer as the financial terms weren't suitable and was connected with a transfer to Trabzonspor that ultimately fell through before the Turkish window closed.

Despite reports from his native country suggesting Richarlison had been relegated to Spurs' U21 setup and De Zerbi seemingly indicating he wasn't participating with his squad prior to Saturday's draw at Nottingham Forest , photographs from Tuesday have revealed the forward has been working with the senior team this week.

There are stringent regulations regarding isolating players from a squad in modern soccer, which clubs are mindful of following several prominent cases in recent years.

Richarlison could face difficulties attempting to secure a contract termination at this point early in the campaign. Article 15 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, which outlines when a player can terminate their contract prematurely due to sporting just cause, indicates: "An established professional who has, in the course of the season, appeared in fewer than ten per cent of the official matches in which his club has been involved may terminate his contract prematurely on the ground of sporting just cause.

"Due consideration shall be given to the player's circumstances in the appraisal of such cases. The existence of sporting just cause shall be established on a case-by-case basis. In such a case, sporting sanctions shall not be imposed, though compensation may be payable.

"A professional may only terminate his contract on this basis in the 15 days following the last official match of the season of the club with which he is registered."

Richarlison is reported to favor a short-term transfer to Vasco until the winter, but a loan arrangement is unavailable as Spurs have already hit their maximum of six outbound international loans.

Guglielmo Vicario , Pape Matar Sarr , Radu Dragusin , Souza, Kota Takai and Yang Min-hyeok all departed on loan this summer across Europe. The only exceptions permitted under FIFA's regulations apply to players aged 21 and under who are also club-trained, meaning Mikey Moore 's temporary move to Köln does not count toward their limit.

As a result, Vasco, or any other Brazilian club, would be required to secure Richarlison on a permanent basis to lure him away from North London. Official negotiations between Vasco and Tottenham regarding a transfer for the striker are not currently understood to be underway, with all attention now turning to the remaining days of the Brazilian transfer window.
