West Virginia assistant coach Noel Devine arrested on strangulation charge hours after WVU's win over UT-Martin

Former West Virginia running back and current assistant coach Noel Devine was arrested on Sunday, hours after the Mountaineers beat Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.

According to the state's jail records site , Devine was booked Sunday into the North Central Regional Jail on a count of strangulation. Per multiple reports , his bond is set at $40,000.

Devine, 38, is an assistant running backs coach and offensive analyst. He's in his second year on the team's coaching staff after joining when the school rehired longtime coach Rich Rodriguez for a second stint in charge.

Devine played for Rodriguez for a season in 2007 before Rodriguez left to become the coach at Michigan. Devine stayed in Morgantown under new coach Bill Stewart and went on to be one of the most prolific running backs in school history.

The Florida native rushed for over 1,000 yards twice and totaled 4,315 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns in his career. He rushed for 1,465 yards and 13 TDs as a junior in 2009 as he averaged 113 yards per game.

Devine is the school's career leader in all-purpose yards and is third among all West Virginia players in career rushing yards behind Avon Cobourne and Pat White. Devine went undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft and played three seasons in the CFL.
