Hibernian 1-2 Celtic: Camilo Duran's 10th goal of season restores four-point lead at top as Hibs remain bottom of Scottish Premiership
Report as Celtic beat Hibernian at Easter Road; Owen Elding fired Hibs to an early lead that was cancelled out by Jason Kerr's own-goal; Camilo Duran fired the Hoops ahead before half-time; Celtic restored their four-point lead at the top of the Premiership; Hibs remain bottom
Martin O'Neill was looking for a response after Celtic's midweek Europa League misery, but Owen Elding fired the struggling Hibees ahead just three minutes into the game.
The hosts, winless under new manager Marink Reedijk, then handed the Hoops the equaliser two minutes later when Jason Kerr headed into his own net from a corner.
Kasper Hogh returned to Celtic's starting line-up, but the record signing's lack of confidence was evident when he wasted two chances to put the champions ahead.
Camilo Duran scored his 10th goal to put Celtic ahead at the break, hammering the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Mika Baur tested Raphael Sallinger from distance, and survived a late flurry of pressure from Hibs who even brought defender Grant Hanley on to play up front.
Hibs remain a point adrift at the foot of the table, without a league win since August, while O'Neill's Celtic have won nine of their last 10 in the Premiership.
There were a couple of blemishes for Celtic.
Substitute Alistair Johnston's return from injury lasted less than 20 minutes before he had to go off, while £11m forward Hogh - restored to the starting line-up after notching in just one of his 13 previous matches - again drew a blank before being replaced in the 64th minute.
3: GOAL HIBS! Joe Newell takes a quick free-kick, Celtic switch off and Owen Elding fires into the far corner.
5: SAVE! Raphael Sallinger gets his fingertips to Callum McGregor's shot to turn it wide.
5: GOAL CELTIC! Jason Kerr heads into his own net from a corner with no Celtic players near him.
12: CHANCE! Osmand with a brilliant cross into the box, but Hogh can't get on the end of it.
14: SAVE! Hogh does get on the end of a ball from Osmand this time, only for Sallinger to produce a brilliant save.
40: CHANCE! Thibault Klidje beats Colby Donovan, but gets too much on his cross and the ball flies past the far post.
43: CLOSE! Donovan totally misjudges a long ball and Klidje gets on the end of it. One-on-one with the keeper, he sends his shot over the bar.
43: GOAL CELTIC! Camilo Duran inside and fires into the far corner. Hibs left to pay for that chance seconds ago.
47: SAVE! Mika Baur hammers a shot from outside the box, but Sallinger does well to keep it out.
67: WIDE! Haissem Hassan wants to make an impact after coming on but fires wide from just outside the area.
72: BLOCK! Duran takes aim from the edge of the box, but Kerr blocks.
83: SAVE! Grant Hanley almost equalises! Rabbi Matondo's deflected shot is just out of reach and Sam Johnstone gathers.
86: BLOCK! Crucial from Carter-Vickers as Hibs look to snatch a point.
Sky Sports' Kris Boyd thinks Celtic have to stop looking at Kasper Hogh's £11m price tag, and stick with Camilo Duran through the middle.
"If Celtic hadn't paid £11m for Kasper Hogh, would they be persevering with him at the top end of the pitch because he's offering absolutely nothing," he said.
"You look at Camilo Duran, any time he goes through the middle Celtic look a far better team. I can understand why he's frustrated.
"He's got another match winner today, but I can totally understand his stance because if I am the man who's firing the goals he has been Celtic's best striker.
"Why is he getting forced out of the way just to accommodate someone because of the price? Kasper Hogh has offered absolutely nothing for me."
On Hibs' dismal winless run of seven league games, Boyd added: "I think the fans have had enough,"
"They're asking questions of the hierarchy all the way down.
"Reedijk has come in, he has tried to put a positive spin but I'm afraid to say I don't really see what direction Hibs are going in.
"To throw him [Grant Hanley] on up front sums up where Hibs are at right now. They are miles off it."
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill speaking to Sky Sports:
"Given the circumstances, given the conditions, given the fact that we didn't play all that well, I thought it was our best win of the season.
"Difficult to come here in normal circumstances and to come from a goal behind after a couple of minutes as well too, I'm really delighted.
"Perseverance of the side, as much as anything else, didn't play really well at all in the game. But it doesn't matter, we've won the game and that shows a bit of character."
On Kasper Hogh's goalless run continuing, he added: "I keep saying this, the goals will come. I'm not just saying this to please myself or anything. I think they will come,"
"If you're a box player, sometimes it might not matter about what happens further out the field at the end of it all. But it'll come good for him."
Asked about Alistair Johnston's short return, O'Neill said: "Alistair's felt something again, a little bit high up in his hamstring. We're a wee bit concerned about it,"
"We'll have to see. That would be a blow if he's out.
"Naturally, I think when you're coming back from these particular injuries, you do have a concern about it. We'll see how he is."
Hibernian manager Marink Reedijk on Sky Sports:
"Overall we were the equals of Celtic. I think that's a compliment towards the team.
"We kept on fighting, I think we kept on in the match and we got the opportunities to at least get a draw here and I think we deserved that.
"I believe that what we need to do is to take the positives out of this. I saw a team which was intense, wanted to fight, created chances and I think that Celtic didn't create until the end when we started to play a little bit more opportunistic.
"That's a big compliment for us because they have quality up front but they weren't able to unlock that."
