Chiefs rule out 2 starters for 'Monday Night Football' tilt vs Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing with significant injuries ahead of their Week 1 home opener against the Denver Broncos on 'Monday Night Football.'

While all of Kansas City 's biggest stars — including quarterback Patrick Mahomes , tight end Travis Kelce , running back Kenneth Walker III , and defensive lineman Chris Jones — are expected to play in the rivalry matchup, the Chiefs officially ruled out two of their starters on Saturday

Conner didn't participate in any of the Chiefs' practice sessions this week due to a knee injury. Fans should expect to see Jaden Hicks and Xavier Nwankpa get extra playing time against the Broncos as defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo adjusts for Conner's absence.

A back injury kept Simmons out of practice all week, which forced Andy Reid to pivot to a strategy that will see rookie offensive lineman Kahlil Benson make his NFL debut as the Chiefs' starting left tackle in Week 1.
