AP Top 25: Ohio State drops nine spots after loss to USC
The Buckeyes fell out of the top 10.
Ohio State tumbled all the way out of the top 10 following its loss to USC.
The Buckeyes dropped from No. 2 to No. 11 after a 30-18 defeat to the Trojans on Saturday night. It was the first start for true freshman QB Luke Fahey after Julian Sayin injured his throwing shoulder in a win over Indiana.
Ohio State became the 11th top 10 team in the past three weeks to lose a game. Additionally, at least one team in the top two of the AP poll has lost in each of the past three weeks.
Miami stayed at No. 1 after a three-point win over North Carolina that included two onside kick recoveries nullified because of penalties. Georgia moved up to No. 2 after a dominant win over Florida, while Utah jumped three spots to No. 3 after blowing out Cincinnati on the road.
Notre Dame is at No. 4 after a win over Navy and UCLA is now at No. 5 after beating Nevada. Yes, the Bruins are really the highest-ranked team from the Big Ten.
Indiana dropped two spots to No. 6 after an overtime win over Minnesota. The Hoosiers' offense has struggled over the past four games and QB Josh Hoover was replaced by Grant Wilson after halftime. Hoover took a big hit on an interception right before the break.
The top 10 is filled out by BYU, Kentucky, Alabama and Texas.
USC moved back into the top 25 at No. 18 after the win over Ohio State. Iowa also jumped into the poll at No. 20 and New Mexico is now ranked at No. 22. The Lobos are two spots behind Boise State at No. 20 as the race for the College Football Playoff's Group of Six spot appears to be between those two teams as November begins.
The top-10 carnage looks highly likely to continue in Week 10 as well. The first week of November is set up to be the most epic of the season. Just look at this slate of games:
