Las Vegas Raiders’ playoff standing gets a boost with Week 8 results
Silver and Black helped their cause and got some help on Sunday.
The Las Vegas Raiders managed to end their four-game losing streak in Week 8 against the New York Jets , evening out their record at 4-4 and keeping their slim postseason hopes alive. Additionally, the Raiders got some help on Sunday, as we take a look at the AFC Playoff picture below.
[Editor's note: The standings below are before the second slate of Sunday's games and Sunday Night Football has completed. Silver and Black Pride will continue to update this article as the games end and standings change.]
5. Denver Broncos 5-2 (Strength of victory tiebreaker over CIN)
9. Las Vegas Raiders 4-4 (3-3 in AFC for tiebreaker over BAL)
12. New York Jets 2-6 (2-3 in AFC for tiebreaker over IND)
The Raiders got help from the Bills, who took down the Ravens 36-10. But the bigger storyline is that Baltimore could be without quarterback Lamar Jackson for the rest of the season after Jackson suffered a thumb injury that will place him on injured reserve and require surgery. The Ravens also had backup quarterback Tyler Huntley go down in the game, leaving them with a lot of question marks at the most important position on the field.
That could remove one more team from being "in the hunt", but Las Vegas still has some work to do. The Titans almost did the Silver and Black a favor, narrowly losing to the Cincinnati Bengals. But the Bengals managed to avoid the upset and climb up to the second AFC Wild Card spot, putting another AFC North team in the seventh seed: The Browns.
Las Vegas heads to Cleveland at the end of the month, but first has a matchup in San Francisco next Sunday. Meanwhile, the Browns will be in New Orleans, the Patriots host the Packers, and the Ravens take on the Jaguars this Thursday.
