Manchester United host Manchester City in Sunday's Manchester derby, the 199th edition of the historic fixture.

City have started the season with three wins out of three in the Premier League and need another victory to keep pace with reigning champions Arsenal .

United were pegged back to a dramatic 2-2 draw at Everton last time out and have four points from three matches in Michael Carrick's first full season in charge.

Carrick started his United reign with a raucous 2-0 win over City on this ground in January. That proved to be the last derby of Pep Guardiola's decade in charge at City. Enzo Maresca will lead the Blues in the derby for the first time.

12:17 a.m. - It remains all square and goalless, but United have the man advantage after Phil Foden's red card. Marcus Rashford just came closest to opening the scoring by thumping a free-kick against the post. City have acquitted themselves pretty well a man down, but Enzo Maresca will have to use his bench shrewdly. Probably big roles to play for Nico O'Reilly and Iliman Ndiaye as legs start to tire.

12:16 a.m. - Free-kick the best part of 30 yards out. Rashford over it. He lets fly and it cannons off the left post! Donnarumma was at full stretch too. So, so close to an incredible derby moment.

43' Both teams out of their comfort zones

12:13 a.m. - Foden's red card has given each team the sort of puzzle they will not have anticipated. City were set up to dominate the play, as they did early on. The likes of Anderson and Semenyo add a robust edge that they've not always had, but Maresca's men will be doing far more defending than they anticipated. As for United, they're lethal on the counterattack and not so hot when they have to pick through a defensive block. It'll be interesting to see how the new midfield duo of Tielemans and Mainoo tackle this new puzzle.

34' Wires crossed for Haaland and Cherki

12:05 a.m. - Haaland looks fired up, and City will need him to stay just the right side of that line. He shurgs Mainoo off on halfway and drives forward, before picking out a lovely curling pass to Cherki. He looks for a return cross but goes to the far post when Haaland has darted to the near. Fine play before that but, a man down, City have to be more clinical in moments like that.

12:00 p.m. - Cherki has gone over onto the right wing where Foden was stationed, leaving Fernandez and Anderson to patrol central areas. The Frenchman has a shot blocked from a corner not long after the red card. Then it's United's turn to try and make their numerical advantage count, as Gvardiol makes a vital headed clearance at the back post with Gvardiol lurking.

11:53 a.m. - Huge moment. City's Mancunian gets a kick on the ankle form Fernandes on the right touchline. He retaliates by throwing his studs into Fernandes' thighs. The United playmaker absolutely makes the most of it, but that's stupid from Foden and he has to go.

11:52 a.m. - Semenyo capitalises on some hesitancy from Dalot and has a chance to look for Haaland. City don't have any other numbers up in the attack, though and Lammens reads the cross.

11:50 a.m. - United carelessly give Haaland room to stride towards goal. He's quite a way out, though and has Maguire and Martinez goal side. Cherki runs up on his right shoulder and the option of whether to pass or shoot seems to confuse City's No. 9 into doing neither. No Rashford enjoys his first scything run into the City box. Guehi shepherds the ball out for a goal kick but United are showing far more poise than they did early on.

11:39 a.m. - United's best moment so far and it all stems from a doozy of a crossfield ball that Nunes gets underneath. I finds Rashford, who knocks possession inside to Fernandes. He looks for the surging run of compatriot Dalot but he's unable to get a touch to discomfort Donnarumma, who gathers unfussily.

11:34 a.m. -The visitors have started on the front foot and shift through the middle of the field via Foden before Fernandez has a shot deflected over. Anderson's first corner is blocked behind. He gets another go. City work this one short, Foden doesn't connect conclusively with Cherki's cross and United are able to hoof away.

11:27 a.m. - The teams are out after the familiar pre-match strains of This Is The One by The Stone Roses. Old Trafford is bathed in mid-afternoon sunlight and the atmosphere is crackling. We're ready to go.

11:15 a.m. - Diogo Dalot has been presented with a commemorative framed shirt to mark what will be his 250th Manchester United appearance. The home fullbacks could have their work cut out, with Phil Foden and Antoine Semenyo proving a goal threat either side of Erling Haaland. The same might be said for the matchups at the other end, though. Rashford will fancy himself against Matheus Nunes, although the converted midfielder has been one of City's most consistent performers over the past year and was sorely missed as Carrick's side claimed a raucous 2-0 win here in January. Josko Gvardiol had a bit of a torrid outing during City's 2-0 win in Porto and was substituted shortly after halftime. Bryan Mbeumo will be keen to see if he's feeling any after-effects.

11 a.m. - The players are out warming up on the Old Trafford turf. There must have been times over the past couple of years when Marcus Rashford will have thought his time of competing in this fixture as a proud Mancunian had gone. But he is back, following loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona , and the England forward has looked sharp this season. He quickly feels integral to Michael Carrick's plans and the only thing missing is a goal. An eighth career strike versus City and a seventh in Manchester derbies would go down very well.

10:40 a.m. - The midfield battle will be fascinating here today, with Anderson and Fernandez for City and Tielemans for United getting their first taste of this fixture. Rayan Cherki will play as City's No. 10, perhaps the only creator in the league on a par with Bruno Fernandes. Hometown hero Kobbie Mainoo in the United ranks means both midfields are set up to create rather than destroy. It will be fascinating to see who holds sway.

10:20 a.m. - Here's the United team. Sesko on the bench again as Carrick keeps faith with Cunha at centre forward, while Marcus Rashford makes his Manchester derby return. Patrick Dorgu starts at left-back in Luke Shaw 's absence.

10 a.m. - Confirmed team news will be with us shortly. All eyes will be on whether Benjamin Sesko starts up front for United. There's a sense that Carrick's team have lacked a focal point at times this season. The big Slovenian certainly gives them that. Sesko came off the bench to score at Everton last weekend and was also on target during the Champions League blowout win over Sabah on Thursday. If he starts here, it would be a popular call with the Old Trafford faithful from Carrick.

9:45 a.m. - Enzo Maresca gets his first taste of the Manchester derby today. Pep Guardiola's first derby was also four league games into the season in September 2016, when City won 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho . Nigeria striker Iheanacho also played under Maresca when he led Leicester City to promotion from the Championship in 2023-24. Despite the generally triumphant nature of that season, Maresca faced Carrick's Middlesbrough twice and lost both times. To extend the tentative feelgood factor of his first few weeks in the City dugout, he will needs to get on the board in that personal battle today.
