It has been a weekend to forget for the Texas football program.

In addition to losing Saturday's rivalry game against Oklahoma, the Longhorns also lost a prized recruit on Sunday. Wide receiver Easton Royal flipped his commitment to another SEC team in Florida:

According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Royal is a 5-star prospect, the No. 5 overall player and the No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2027.

Gabe Brooks of 247Sports provided a scouting report for Royal, and one of the first things that jumps out is his athleticism and speed as someone who also runs track.

That makes him a threat to make plays after the catch and beat defenders over the top on deep balls.

What's more, he is versatile enough to play from the outside or the slot, which will allow Florida to mix and match its offensive looks depending on opposing defenses and matchups it can exploit.

This is Jon Sumrall's first season as Florida's head coach, as he is tasked with restoring the program back to its past glory following a disappointing stretch under Billy Napier. The best way to do that quickly is by finding success on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal, and he found plenty of success with this move.

Royal is the type of high-ceiling playmaker who can immediately change the look of the receiver room.

He also allows the Gators to maintain some recruiting momentum, as they are No. 8 in 247Sports' rankings for the 2027 class.

As for Texas, it is still a spot ahead of Florida at No. 7 but will have to look elsewhere after losing a key piece of its class.
