Barcelona's Camp Nou to host 2029 Champions League final after beating Wembley bid

Barcelona's renovated Camp Nou has been chosen to host the 2029 Champions League final, UEFA announced on Tuesday, with the stadium beating Wembley in London for the showpiece event.The decision gives Barcelona one of European football's biggest matches a year before Spain co-hosts the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and Morocco. The 2030 World Cup final is expected to be contested between Real Madrid's renovated Santiago Bernabéu and the new 115,000-seat stadium being built in Casablanca.UEFA's executive committee also confirmed that Bayern Munich's stadium will host the 2028 Champions League final. It was the only venue to submit a bid and will stage the final for the second time in three years after hosting the 2025 edition.The redevelopment of Camp Nou is still underway. Work continues on the upper tier and roof of the 105,000-seat stadium, with the project facing several delays.Camp Nou last hosted a Champions League final in 1999, when Manchester United scored two stoppage-time goals to beat Bayern Munich.Wembley has hosted the Champions League final three times since then — in 2011, 2013 and 2024 — and has staged the final eight times overall since the European Cup began 71 years ago.This season's Champions League final will be played at Atletico Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.Lyon to host Women's Champions League finalUEFA also announced the venues for upcoming Women's Champions League finals. Lyon, the competition's record eight-time winner, will host the 2028 final.Cardiff's city-centre national stadium will host the 2029 Women's Champions League final.
