Marcellus' Blake McWilliams earns Footballer of the Week

MARCELLUS — For the second week in a row, a Marcellus football player has earned Footballer of the Week honors.

This week, Blake McWilliams of the Wildcats earned the most votes from area voters. There were 15 student-athletes up for Footballer of the Week honors for the first time since we've been doing this.

McWilliams secured 2,811 total votes. This equated to 37.7 percent of the 7,672 total ballots cast. Xavior Zinsmaster came in second at 1,300 total votes, which was 17.5 percent of the votes.

McWilliams was nominated for the award this week for helping Marcellus move to 2-0 with a victory over Martin last week. He recorded a team-high 15 tackles for Marcellus in the win, plus had an interception and scored a defensive touchdown in the team's 34-23 win. He joined Martelle Enright as Footballer of the Week winners as Enright rushed to the award for the first week of the season.

On Tuesday afternoon, the next installment of the Footballer of the Week poll will be live.
