Bayern Munich’s Jonas Urbig earns call-up to the German national football team

Jonas Urbig was signed by Bayern Munich to become Manuel Neuer 's understudy and eventual successor. The 23-year-old emerged as a solid goalkeeper in the absence of Neuer, putting in impressive shifts in the Bundesliga and Champions League. Therefore, he's about to get rewarded for his rapid rise to prominence.

Per a report from Bild (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia ), Urbig earned a call-up to the German national football team as a planned back up to Marc-André ter Stegen who is the starting goalkeeper. Urbig could be joined by fellow goalkeepers Finn Dahmen from FC Augsburg and former Bayern goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, now at Beşiktaş.

With Neuer's time on the pitch for Die Mannschaft already at its conclusion, with his tenure at Bayern soon to follow, this is Urbig's chance to showcase his abilities on the international stage and make a case for himself to become an eventual starting goalkeeper. Urbig joined the national team at the 2026 World Cup as a training goalkeeper.
