Western Michigan HC Lance Taylor Reacts to Michigan's Controversial Win on Bryce Underwood Hail Mary

Western Michigan head coach Lance Taylor reacted to the controversial Michigan Hail Mary on the final play of his team's 13-12 loss to the No. 16 Wolverines on Saturday night.

"I have not seen the clip," Taylor told reporters after the game. "Several people have mentioned it to me that the game was over. One, our commissioner has already reached out. Normally he handles those type of situations and reviews. I thought that the crew tonight did a really nice job handling multiple close calls and review situations."

"I know when I looked up at the clock, it was past zeros before we touched it," he added. "I knew that they would review it, it was the last play of the game. Because we defended it so well, wasn't worried or concerned about our guys going out and defending it a second time. Unfortunately, we did not defend it as well the second time."

Michigan trailed by five points and had the ball at Western Michigan's 47-yard line with seven seconds left in the fourth quarter. A Hail Mary attempt from Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood was unsuccessful as time ran out, although officials reviewed the play and put one second back on the clock.

Underwood's second Hail Mary attempt was caught by JJ Buchanan in the end zone, resulting in a win for Michigan.

While Taylor's squad couldn't emerge victorious, it was still a valiant effort overall.

The Broncos completely shut down a Michigan offense that averaged 396.9 yards and 27.5 points per game last season.

The Wolverines finished with 276 total yards on Saturday, converting just three of 10 opportunities on third down while committing three turnovers.

Although Western Michigan fell to 0-1, the future is bright as the team looks to capture a second straight MAC championship.
