Mark Walter has officially sold off his shares in Chelsea .

Walter and co-owner Todd Boehly sold their shares in the English soccer club on Wednesday to majority owner Clearlake Capital, the team announced . Walter and Boehly purchased the club in 2022 alongside Clearlake Capital for roughly $3.3 billion.

Boehly was previously the chairman of Chelsea. Clearlake will now take controlling ownership of the club. It's unclear how much Walter sold his shares for, but the deal comes amid what's been a turbulent time for him.

Walter sold the Los Angeles Lakers for a record $12.5 billion to a group led by Josh Kushner and Bob Iger last month in a surprise move. The deal reportedly came together in a matter of days, and ended Walter's time running the franchise after roughly a year. He had purchased the franchise for a then-record $10 billion in June 2025.

Walter is the subject of a federal investigation into whether his insurance companies engaged in fraud. There are allegations that they invested money from policyholders into other companies owned by Walter without properly disclosing it to investors. Walter has also been accused of accusations that he used those companies, and that money, to fund his purchase of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Walter's company, TWG Global, said last month after the sale of the Lakers that the Dodgers are not going to be sold, and that it complied with all MLB rules when they purchased the Dodgers for more than $2 billion in 2012. Dodgers president Stan Kasten has reiterated that the Dodgers are "not for sale" despite the investigation into Walter, too.

But after selling off two of the three most notable teams that he owns, even with the team insisting otherwise, it's fair to wonder if the Dodgers could be sold in the near future, too. The Dodgers have already clinched a playoff spot this fall, and are vying for a third straight World Series title.

Chelsea is coming off a successful year, too. The club recently won the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League. They currently sit at 2-1-1 in the Premier League after a 2-2 draw with Hull City on Sunday.
