The Big 12 has admitted to another officiating error involving BYU.

The conference said Saturday night that it should not have given BYU a touchdown in the first quarter of the No. 8 Cougars' 27-20 win over Arizona State on Saturday.

Running back Sione Moa was credited with a fumble recovery touchdown after quarterback

Bear Bachmeier lost the ball on a QB sneak attempt near the goal line. However, replay officials should have put the ball back to the spot of the fumble for BYU to run a play on third down.

"At 11:27 in the first period of the Arizona State-BYU game, Big 12 replay officials stopped the game to review possession by BYU," the conference said in a statement. "The play showed that the runner lost possession of the ball prior to the forward progress spot, and the ball was recovered by another BYU player at the two-yard line and he was awarded a touchdown. "Rule 12-3-3-d-2 states 'If the replay official rules that the ball was not dead, it belongs to the recovering team at the spot of the recovery and any advance is nullified.' "Replay was incorrect in awarding a score. The correct ruling should have been BYU ball for a third-and-goal attempted from the two-yard line."

The touchdown was Moa's first of two on the day. He finished with eight carries for 20 yards, while Bachmeier threw for 236 yards and a TD.

Two weeks ago, Big 12 officials failed to give Notre Dame another play at the end of the Fighting Irish's loss to the Cougars. As Notre Dame threw into the end zone while trailing 28-24, CJ Carr's pass fell incomplete with one second remaining on the clock. However, officials failed to review the time remaining on the clock — while also potentially missing a pass interference penalty — and the game ended.

A week ago, UCF upset BYU 39-31 in two overtimes after UCF's potential game-winning kick on third down at the end of the third quarter was blocked. Kicker Will Stone recovered the kick and had his helmet ripped off as he went down with four seconds to go. Officials said that a 10-second runoff was necessary because Stone's helmet came off. However, the clock stops at the end of a blocked kick recovery. And that clock stoppage supersedes a runoff.

Had the clock rules been properly applied, UCF would have gotten another chance to kick a game-winning field goal in regulation.
