Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Josh Simmons was reportedly kicked out of a team meeting by Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes prior to being placed on injured reserve, according to NFL Network. The incident occurred Wednesday. A day later, Simmons was put on IR.

During a Wednesday team meeting, Simmons was reportedly sitting with his feet up. Chiefs coach Andy Reid asked Simmons to put his feet down, to which Simmons reportedly responded that his back and hips were bothering him and he had to sit that way. Reid then told Simmons to go receive treatment if he was hurting.

The pair continued to discuss the issue until Patrick Mahomes also told Simmons to leave and go get treatment. The 23-year-old offensive lineman did leave the room, though stayed at Chiefs' facilities.

Later that day, Simmons apologized to Reid and Chiefs leadership, per NFL Network.

Simmons, who the team selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, has not played this season due to a back injury. He appeared to be on the mend, however, and was able to put in limited practices ahead of Week 6. Despite that, he was ruled out for the contest.

On Wednesday, Simmons was unable to practice due to the issue. He was listed on the injury report due to back and personal reasons. With Simmons' back once again acting up, the team gave Simmons a day to speak with his family and representation about his next steps. The next day, the team placed Simmons on injured reserve, ensuring he'll miss the next four games as he recovers from the injury.

Simmons initially complained of a calf issue in August. After being looked at by trainers, it was believed Simmons was dealing with a bulging disk in his back, which an MRI later confirmed. Doctors recommended rehab over surgery for Simmons. When the team did imaging following the Chiefs' Week 5 bye, the disk looked better, resulting in Simmons returning to practice.

But the injury was still giving Simmons trouble ahead of Week 7, leading to the lineman being placed on IR.

Simmons was selected by the team to be a blindside protector for Mahomes, one of the most important jobs in football. But the second-year player has played in only eight games due to injuries and personal absences. He missed multiple weeks as a rookie due to personal reasons and then sustained a fractured wrist in Week 13. He was later placed on IR, ending his season.

With Simmons' latest injury, the offensive lineman will be eligible to return in Week 11 at the earliest. With Simmons out, the Chiefs have relied on undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson at left tackle.
