Jeremiyah Love Updates Injury Status for Cardinals vs. Chargers, Fantasy Outlook for NFL Week 1

Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love could be making his regular-season NFL debut Sunday despite a lingering ankle injury.

Love told reporters Thursday he would be willing to play in this weekend's season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers even if his injured ankle isn't "100 percent."

"I expect to do whatever the coaches want me to do. They want to put me out there, I'm gonna go out there and play, whether my ankle feels 100 percent, 50 percent, 70 percent," Love said (h/t PHNX Sports' Bo Brack).

Love also told reporters his ankle is "getting better every single day," per Brack .

Love suffered a high ankle sprain Aug. 13. He was most recently listed as a limited participant in the Cardinals' Thursday and Friday practices.

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Wednesday that regardless of official practice designations there was "no limit on our end" in terms of Love's participation.

Love said Thursday he has been trying "to do more than what they wanted me to do" since suffering the injury in a preseason matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

"When I first injured it, they wanted to put me in a boot," Love said (h/t Brack). "I'm like, 'Nah, I just want to walk around. I want to feel it out and do my own thing.' But the trainers, they know what's best."

He aded he has "full trust" in the Cardinals to guide his recovery, per Brack .

LaFleur has given non-specific but positive updates on Love throughout the week leading up to the season opener.

When asked Monday is he was optimistic Love had a chance to play, LaFleur answered , "Yeah, I feel good."

LaFleur said when asked Wednesday for an update the team planned to "just kind of take it one day at a time" with Love.

The Cardinals listed Love behind Tyler Allgeier on the Cardinals' unofficial Week 1 depth chart , but LaFleur said Wednesday he didn't think that order was worth looking "too far into."

Love said Thursday he trusts LaFleur to create an "explosive" offense designed around players' specific skillsets.

Allgeier might take a larger share of the workload early in the season, especially if Love is limited by his injury. The chance Love will get more carries when healthy should still make fantasy managers consider holding on to the rookie running back despite his uncertain Week 1 status.
