The Pro Football Hall of Famer will travel to the Swiss Alps next week to attempt an official Guinness World Records field goal at Jungfraujoch, known as the “Top of Europe,” at an elevation of 3,454 meters (11,332 feet). With heavy snow falling during the divisional playoff game in January 2002, Vinatieri connected on a 45-yard field goal late in regulation to tie the game.He later kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime, helping New England advance toward its first Super Bowl championship. Vinatieri acknowledged as much while discussing the upcoming attempt.“I've had the chance to attempt a lot of special kicks in my career, but getting to go for an official Guinness World Records title on snow at 3,454 meters in a Patriots jersey is truly something special,” Vinatieri said.He added that the conditions in the Alps are “completely different” from what players experience in the NFL, which is precisely what makes the challenge exciting.Vinatieri's latest challenge comes after Hall of Fame honorThe record attempt comes during a particularly significant year for Vinatieri.The former Patriots and Indianapolis Colts kicker was recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, adding another major honor to a career that already includes four Super Bowl championships.Vinatieri spent 24 NFL seasons with New England and Indianapolis from 1996 through 2019. He remains the NFL's all-time leading scorer with 2,673 points, according to Guinness World Records. He also holds the NFL record for most career field-goal attempts, with 715, according to the league's record book.Now, he has the opportunity to add another unusual record to his résumé.Why are the Patriots sending Vinatieri to Switzerland?The Guinness World Records attempt isn't happening in isolation.
