‘Make it happen’ – NFL fans name dream Troy Aikman successor after Joe Buck development

Troy Aikman's contract situation at ESPN appears to be causing a number of issues behind the scenes as his relationship with Joe Buck is feeling the tension.

Reports have now highlighted a frosty atmosphere between Aikman and Buck during their Monday Night Football coverage of the Buffalo Bills' victory over the Los Angeles Rams. It is even suggested that an argument took place between them in the booth ahead of their broadcast at SoFi Stadium.

These tensions come amid Aikman's ongoing contract debacle with ESPN following Buck signing his $108m extension to stay on as the Monday Night Football commentator. This has reportedly led to their professional relationship taking a real hit.

With Aikman's future with ESPN under scrutiny, NFL fans from across the nation have shared the person they would like to see potentially replace him in the booth.

There is still time for Aikman and ESPN to reach an agreement on an extension but the direction of travel is not heading in a positive manner. As many fans start to believe that Aikman could be set to move on from Monday Night Football, a number of names are being suggested as his potential successor.

'Make it happen,' one fan replied on X with a photo of Tony Romo.

'So, MNF next year is going to be Joe Buck, Pat McAfee, and Jason Kelce,' replied another.

Whether Romo could move to another network so soon following his departure from CBS remains to be seen. Romo reached a mutual agreement with the network following his private issue rumbling on from the summer.

'It's gonna be Joe Buck and Tony Romo. I guarantee it,' another fan hoped.

'If things go south they should bring Gruden in,' one fan suggested.

Jon Gruden has been working in the media following his departure from the Las Vegas Raiders. The former head coach has proven extremely popular but his recent appearance at a Donald Trump rally may prove an issue for some networks.

'I hope they go after Greg Olson. He's probably my favorite with Tom [Brady]', replied one fan.

'They want Sean McVay in the booth,' another sensationally suggested.
