Tom Brady has made several contributions away from the football field, including a donation that helped children gain access to technology and educational resources. In Feb. 2009, the former New England Patriots quarterback donated 1,000 laptops to One Laptop per Child with support from the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. The initiative aimed to reach children across 31 countries and Boys and Girls Clubs in all six New England states. Brady also visited a Boston-area club to meet children and demonstrate how the computers worked. How Tom Brady’s 1,000-laptop donation aimed to expand learning opportunitiesBrady supported the One Laptop per Child campaign founded by Nicholas Negroponte. The initiative focused on giving children access to affordable computers, particularly in communities where educational technology was difficult to obtain.During his visit to the West End House Boys and Girls Club in Allston, Massachusetts, Brady brought XO laptops for children to explore. The computers featured a colour screen, internet connectivity and educational programmes designed to help children learn and communicate.Brady explained why the initiative meant so much to him.“I've been blessed with many opportunities to have traveled around the world, and I've been to Africa, been to some impoverished places around the world, and to give children the hope and the opportunity to learn and to expand their vision of the world is extremely important,” Brady said in February 2009.His personal connection to the project also extended to his family. Brady revealed that his sister had spent five months in Uganda, where children had recently received laptops for their classroom.“It's exciting for me to be here to show some support and create some awareness for what Nicholas has done. It's an incredible vision,” he added. The donation was intended to reach children beyond the United States, with the 1,000 computers distributed through One Laptop per Child's participating countries and Boys and Girls Clubs across New England. Tom Brady's Esplanade donation supports free youth activities in BostonBrady returned to supporting children and community recreation in Boston in April 2024 with a donation to the Esplanade Association. The contribution supported free youth programming and plans for year-round recreation along the Charles River Esplanade, an area Brady described as his former backyard when he lived in Boston's Back Bay.The association renamed its free youth activities the Tom Brady Family Youth Programs. These included Children in the Park, which connects local summer camps with outdoor activities, and Music and Movement, which introduces young children to music and movement through the Boston Music Project.Brady reflected on his personal connection to the area in a statement.“This park was so special to me. It was my backyard for years when I lived in the Back Bay. It's where I first pushed my kids on a swing,” he said. His contribution also supported plans for Charlesbank Landing, an indoor-outdoor facility designed to offer recreation throughout the year. The project formed part of broader efforts to expand activities and improve access to the Esplanade for local families.Brady's former Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski also contributed to the area through the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation, which donated $1.2 million in 2021 toward renovations at Charlesbank Playground.Together, these initiatives highlight Brady's support for opportunities that help children learn, explore and stay active beyond the football field.Stay updated with the latest Asian Games 2026 news, check the Asian Games medal tally and complete Asian Games schedule.Get the latest Sports News and Live updates.
