Caleb Williams Talks Jeffery Simmons Trade After Star's Bears Debut, 'Happy He's On Our Side'

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams loved his first glimpse of Jeffery Simmons along the defensive front.

"I'm happy he's on our side," Williams told reporters after Monday's 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Simmons finished with six tackles, including one sack and two tackles for loss. It was an impressive Bears debut for the four-time Pro Bowler.

Coach Ben Johnson singled him out for a game ball in the locker room during his postgame speech to the team:

Immediately after the Simmons trade, the general consensus was that Chicago made an obvious upgrade to the defensive line but paid a steep premium. It's a mixed bag in terms of NFL teams swapping two first-round picks for a proven star.

A blockbuster of this magnitude will ultimately be judged on what the Bears do in the playoffs. Even if Simmons performs at an All-Pro level, Chicago needs to make a deep postseason run to make the investment worth it.

On the basis of Monday night, that might happen.
