Commanders' Leo Chenal Provides Update After Season-Ending Surgery After Scary Injury vs. Seahawks

Washington Commanders linebacker Leo Chenal revealed that his surgery "went well" after he suffered a neck injury in Sunday's 33-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz previously reported Chanel would have season-ending surgery.

Chenal was carted off the field midway through the second quarter. His brother subsequently posted on social media he could move his arms and legs and had no signs of nerve damage.

Chenal is in his first season with Washington after signing a three-year, $24.8 million contract. He had previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs, who selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The 25-year-old appeared in 14 games for Kansas City in 2025, finishing with 58 combined tackles and two sacks.

Chenal came off the bench in Washington's season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles but started over the next two weeks with Frankie Luvu sidelined. Luvu is nursing a groin strain .

The Commanders are also without the services of Jordan Magee, who landed on injured reserve earlier this month.

Chenal was off to a strong start. He had 18 tackles and one tackle for loss through Washington's first three contests.
