Brandon Aiyuk hires Drew Rosenhaus in attempt to get wideout 'back to work and playing again in the NFL'

Brandon Aiyuk hasn't played in an NFL game since 2024.

It's been over two years since San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk played in an NFL game. After sustaining an ACL and MCL injury during the 2024 season, Aiyuk was initially placed on the PUP list ahead of 2025. But his relationship with the 49ers deteriorated, leading Aiyuk to not appear in a game despite still being under contract with the team.

Now the wideout is looking to change that. In an attempt to get back in the NFL, the 28-year-old Aiyuk hired agent Drew Rosenhaus, per multiple media reports. Rosenhaus told reporters he is tasked with "working on getting [Aiyuk] back to work and playing again in the NFL ."

Aiyuk was previously represented by agent Ryan Williams, but reportedly fired him last November. Aiyuk blamed Williams for the issues between the wideout and the 49ers.

In December, the 49ers placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left team list. He remains on there today.

Months after firing Williams, Aiyuk was vocal on social media, often expressing a desire to join the Washington Commanders. Aiyuk and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels played together at Arizona State for one season. That trade never materialized.

If Aiyuk is serious about returning to the NFL, his path forward is unclear. With his relationship with the 49ers ruined, the wideout would first likely need to establish his intent to play again. It's unclear, however, if Aiyuk would be willing to report to the team if the 49ers required it.

It's also unclear how much interest teams have in Aiyuk. While he proved to be immensely talented in 2022 and 2023, he hasn't played in an NFL game in two seasons and spent the past offseason torpedoing his chances of a return to the 49ers.

Given the injury questions and his personal baggage, Aiyuk might not draw much interest on the trade market.

While the 49ers could use help at wide receiver due to the team's various injuries, it doesn't appear the team is willing to welcome Aiyuk back. When asked about that possibility in September, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan simply replied "no" when the option was discussed .

Aiyuk is still under contract with the 49ers through the 2028 season. He signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the team in 2024, just months before his season-ending knee injury.
