Rams star Myles Garrett could reportedly be sidelined longer than expected

Los Angeles Rams star pass rusher Myles Garrett could remain sidelined from knee surgery until nearly the halfway point of the season, NFL Network reported .

Garrett was given a six-week timeline after his knee surgery, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported. That could potentially keep him out until the Rams' Week 9 game against the Washington Commanders on Nov. 8.

Garrett is "determined to beat the timeline," but the Rams want to be cautious with his recovery, Rapoport reported. Garrett has a minimum four-game stint on the IR, which means the earliest he could return is Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 18.

Garrett underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after struggling in Los Angeles ' Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers . The knee had bothered him throughout training camp and the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year didn't record a single tackle against the 49ers.

The Rams acquired Garrett in a blockbuster offseason trade with the Cleveland Browns that sent Jared Verse and multiple draft picks to Cleveland.

Rams coach Sean McVay has not publicly announced a specific timeline for Garrett's return.
