Bears' Updated Super Bowl LXI Odds After Jeffery Simmons Trade with Titans
The Chicago Bears are going for it.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday the reigning NFC North champions are acquiring four-time Pro Bowler Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans at the cost of two first-round picks.
In the immediate aftermath of the deal, the Bears have the joint third-best Super Bowl odds (+1000) with the Seattle Seahawks at FanDuel Sportsbook .
With quarterback Caleb Williams still on his rookie contract, this is precisely the time for general manager Ryan Poles to be bold. Williams counts for $10.8 million against the salary cap right now and then $12.6 million for the 2027 season. Even his fifth-year option in 2028 will be less than the market value for an upper-tier QB.
Chicago is never going to have more flexibility to build around Williams than it does now.
Simmons addresses a big need along the defensive front.
Chicago is allowing the eighth-fewest yards per game (313.4) and boasts a top-five unit against the run. The defense is a more modest 22nd in yards per carry surrendered (4.4).
Poles is having to pay a high premium after the trade of Gervon Dexter Sr. left a void in the interior of the Bears' line.
It's not often that a defensive tackle is the proverbial missing piece of the puzzle, but that's how good Simmons can be as a member of the Monsters of the Midway. Through seven games this season, he has 38 combined tackles and four sacks. That latter number would tie for the most on the Bears.
For most fans, Chicago isn't the top Super Bowl favorite with Simmons now in the fold. The team does look like an even stronger contender, though.
