Cowboys' Jake Ferguson Fined by NFL For 'Imitation of Shotgunning a Beer' vs. Commanders

The NFL's crackdown on celebrations that are perceived to be pantomiming the consumption of alcohol continued Friday.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the NFL announced that it fined Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson $13,611 for his "imitation of shotgunning a beer" after scoring a touchdown in the team's 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 2:

The league noted that the celebration "constituted an offensive demonstration and could reasonably could be construed as being in poor taste."

Ferguson's fine comes after the NFL fined San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk $14,926 on Thursday for an "imitation of chugging a beer" during the Niners' 35-13 Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Juszczyk, whose nickname is "Juice," pushed back against the NFL's assertion on Thursday, telling reporters that he was mimicking drinking juice rather than a beer.

The veteran fullback subsequently appealed the fine and will have a hearing on Tuesday, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner .

It is unclear if Ferguson will appeal as well, although it may be tougher for him to make a case that his "shotgunning" celebration wasn't meant to reference beer.

Ferguson, 27, is a two-time Pro Bowler who bounced back from a slow start to his 2026 season after recording just two catches for six yards in a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 1.

In Dallas' convincing victory over Washington, Ferguson finished with four receptions for 43 yards and a pair of touchdowns from quarterback Dak Prescott.

Ferguson set career highs with 82 receptions and eight touchdowns last season, and he continues to be a key part of the Cowboys' high-powered offense along with Prescott, wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, and running back Javonte Williams.

Dallas will look to improve to 2-1 on the season Sunday when it hosts the 1-1 Baltimore Ravens.
