Rams' Puka Nacua doubtful for Broncos game, expected to return in Week 4

The Los Angeles Rams are likely to be without wide receiver Puka Nacua for a second straight week as he will be doubtful for Sunday night's matchup with the Denver Broncos .

Head coach Sean McVay told ESPN Los Angeles earlier this week that Nacua was "not making great progress" in his recovery from groin soreness that kept him out of the Rams' Monday night win over the New York Giants .

The injury is not a long-term concern, McVay added, and the team is just being cautious.

"When you're a skill player and you're really trying to hit high-speed yards and really open up and you feel just ... it's like some of the things that can almost be like pre-hernia is kind of what he's feeling," McVay said . "And so you err on the side of caution. Usually time is the best thing that allows that thing to heal. And then once you get to a certain point, then I think you feel pretty good moving forward."

On Friday, McVay said that barring a setback they expect Nacua to be available for Week 4 when they play the Philadelphia Eagles .

What Nacua is dealing with now is not related to the psoas issue that caused him to miss time during training camp. He was healthy enough to play Week 1 during the Rams' loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. Nacua caught five passes on nine targets for 74 yards.

Nacua has not practiced this week and McVay said that the team is not considering placing him on injured reserve.

"We all want him to be able to be out there, but we want him to be able to return to performance, not just be able to just kind of gut through it," McVay said.
