Miami Dolphins overreaction Monday: Malik Willis as long-term QB1?
It's an Overreaction Monday. Malik Willis a franchise QB? Ollie Gordon II a RB1? Dolphins to win five games?
The Miami Dolphins beat the New York Jets 28-25 to improve to 1-5.
Miami will host New England at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 4:25 p.m.
It's never a bad time for an Overreaction Monday, so ... here goes...
Overreaction? No. General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has offered some reason for hope with his first draft class. Kadyn Proctor, Chris Johnson, Jacob Rodriguez and Caleb Douglas have often shined. Chris Bell, Will Kacmarek, Kyle Louis, Michael Taaffe and more have shown promise. Sullivan's best-available-player approach is paying dividends.
Miami Dolphins hope for first NFL win at New York Jets
Overreaction? No. The Malik Willis we saw on Sunday is the Malik Willis who flashed at times this summer and as a Green Bay Packer, in limited playing time, too. Malik made smart choices and was dynamic as a runner and made a few impressive off-platform throws. It will important to monitor Willis' improvement from the first third to second third and final third of the season.
Overreaction? No. Miami has only one win. But… they are hitting the realistic goals: relentless effort, promising rookies, positive attitudes, development and improvement, QB showing potential.
Overreaction? Yes. Obviously Gordon is Miami's #1 for the foreseeable future. Obviously De'Von Achane is Miami's #1 at the start of the 2027 season. In a dream scenario Gordon is so good the rest of the way Miami can promote some type of Thunder and Lightning duo, with Lightning still taking most 2027 carries.
Overreaction? Yes. The Dolphins beat the Jets. It's fun but let's not get carried away. Could Miami beat the Jets, Colts and Chargers and finish 4-13? Perhaps. But 3-14 still feels like the most likely outcome. Miami still has 8 stout opponents on their remaining schedule. They'll try to win, as they should, but are still headed toward a Top 4 or Top 5 pick in the next NFL Draft. Which will be important.
