The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a perfect 4-0 start, but their unbeaten record does not necessarily mean they have looked like a dominant team. An ESPN expert offered an honest assessment of the Chiefs after their narrow 30-27 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, pointing to reasons for optimism as well as concerns that could become more significant later in the season.
Kansas City has found ways to win each of its first four games , which remains the most important takeaway from its early schedule. However, the Chiefs have not consistently overwhelmed opponents, and their latest victory showed how little margin for error they currently have. They needed a late touchdown to secure the win after the Raiders pushed them throughout the contest.
The close games have raised questions about whether Kansas City is playing at the level expected from a team that has become a perennial Super Bowl contender. The Chiefs have the experience and talent to overcome difficult situations, but relying on late-game heroics every week is not a sustainable formula once the schedule becomes more difficult.
There are still plenty of reasons for confidence. The offense has continued to produce explosive moments, while the defense has done enough to keep games within reach. Kansas City has also shown an ability to respond when opponents make runs, an important trait for a team that expects to remain in contention throughout the season.
ESPN Expert Assesses Kansas City Chiefs After Impressive 4-0 Start
Kansas City was given a positive review after starting the season with a 4-0 record . This can be seen in an analysis by Dan Graziano for ESPN.
There are no perfect teams. There are other very good ones, even in the AFC. The Jaguars might be the best team in the league when all is said and done. So could the Bills. The 49ers might be, too! The Browns … nah, let's not go there. But none of the other very good teams in the league has the history of high-level winning that Andy Reid and Mahomes have together. So, if you want to tell me that Kansas City is the best, I'd have a hard time mounting an argument that I truly believe in.
The emergence of Kenneth Walker III has provided another encouraging development for the Chiefs. His late touchdown production against Las Vegas helped Kansas City escape with the victory and demonstrated how a stronger rushing presence could take pressure off the passing game. If the running attack continues to improve, the Chiefs could become more balanced as the season progresses.
The 4-0 record gives Kansas City an excellent foundation, but its early performances suggest there is still work to do before it can be considered a complete team. The Chiefs have shown they can win close games, and the next step will be proving they can consistently control them against stronger competition.
