Minnesota Vikings Star Justin Jefferson Gets Honest About Kyler Murray’s Return

The Minnesota Vikings have gone 2-0 to begin the 2026 NFL season. After pulling off a shocking comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, they took care of business against the Chicago Bears in Week 2.

Last week, the Vikings were able to defeat the Bears by a final score of 9-3. Carson Wentz started the game after Kyler Murray was ruled out due to the concussion he suffered against the Packers. In Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , Murray is set to resume the starting role.

Murray was signed to a one-year deal during the NFL offseason after he was released by the Arizona Cardinals . He beat out J.J. McCarthy for the starting job during training camp and preseason action. The hope was that Murray would be able to help Justin Jefferson get back on track.

So far this season, fans haven't gotten a true look at the connection between Murray and Jefferson.

Ahead of this week's game against the Buccaneers, Jefferson was asked for his thoughts about Murray's return. He was happy to offer an answer.

During a media session on Wednesday, Jefferson made his thoughts crystal clear about Murray being his starting quarterback.

"Looking forward to it," Jefferson said . "Obviously, what we've built throughout training camp, throughout the offseason, leading into the season, has definitely been exciting and something that we've all been waiting for. The time was limited the first game. So, for him to be back out there and for us to get started with him is going to be a joy to see."

In Week 1, Murray didn't play very long before the concussion occurred. He completed three of his five pass attempts for 18 yards and an interception. Needless to say, it wasn't the best debut for the former No. 1 overall pick from the 2019 NFL Draft.

Throughout his career, Murray has shown flashes of star potential. He has played in 88 career games, completing 67.1 percent of his pass attempts for 20,478 yards, 121 touchdowns, and 61 interceptions, while also running for 3,202 yards and 32 touchdowns.

At 29 years old, there is still a chance that Murray could be a long-term option for the Vikings. Minnesota can only hope that he can be an option past the 2026 season.

Only time will tell what the rest of the season has in store. That being said, the Vikings are going to get their first real look at the Murray-Jefferson connection this week against Tampa Bay . Jefferson sounds excited about it.
