The Minnesota Vikings will likely have a new quarterback at the helm for Monday's game against the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter said on Get Up that "it is trending towards" Carson Wentz taking over for Kyler Murray, who's nursing a hamstring issue:

The injury could provide a handy reason for Minnesota to make a switch some fans will argue is justified anyway.

Signing Murray to a one-year contract made sense given the paltry cost . The move simply isn't working out.

Since returning from a concussion in Week 3, the two-time Pro Bowler has thrown for 1,004 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in five starts. He ranks 26th among qualified players in QBR (44.7) at ESPN.com .

It's getting more and more difficult to maintain hope that Murray can be a successful reclamation project in the vein of Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield.

Wentz threw for three touchdowns after filling in for Murray in a 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers, but it was a much different story when he started in Week 2. He went 11-of-20 for 143 yards as Minnesota lost 9-3 to the Chicago Bears.

The fact some would posit the 33-year-old is an upgrade over Murray speaks to how poorly Murray is performing. Wentz is a better pure passer, and that might be enough to make a meaningful difference for the offense.
