The NFL and NFLPA's joint appeals officer overturned the $13,611 fine levied to Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson for the "imitation of shotgunning a beer," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter .
Ferguson appealed on the basis he was simulating the drinking of Gatorade, not an alcoholic beverage.
The two-time Pro Bowler hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott in the second quarter of a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 2. He gestured toward fellow tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford, and they had a joint celebration that seemingly didn't leave a lot of room for interpretation.
NFL suspends two refs for 'unprofessional conduct'
There was apparently enough evidence for Ferguson to convince the appeals officer otherwise.
San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was fined for making a similar gesture. His appeal was also successful as he argued he was motioning drinking from a juice box as a reference to his "Juice" nickname.
Ferguson is earning a little more than $8 million for the 2026 season, so a $13,611 fine would've been a drop in the bucket. Still, he felt the need to set the record straight.
