Cowboys Weren't Only Team That Called Steelers About Joey Porter Jr.
Detroit made a serious push for Joey Porter Jr. before the Steelers ultimately sent the cornerback to Dallas.
The Dallas Cowboys weren't the only team interested in Joey Porter Jr. before the Pittsburgh Steelers traded the cornerback this week.
The Detroit Lions also made a push for Porter, with head coach Dan Campbell confirming Friday that Detroit was heavily involved in trade discussions.
"We were very much in on him," Campbell told reporters .
Pittsburgh ultimately sent Porter to Dallas in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
The Steelers selected Porter early in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He started 41 of the 47 regular-season games he played in Pittsburgh, finishing his three seasons with 165 tackles, 31 passes defended and three interceptions.
Detroit's interest in Porter comes as the Lions look to stabilize their cornerback room.
Now, Porter will begin the next chapter of his career with the Cowboys, while Pittsburgh moves forward with the draft capital it received in the trade.
