Billionaire 49ers Owner Jed York Suspended And Fined After Prostitution Sting
York, who was arrested after attempting to meet with a fake prostitution service, pleaded no contest to his charges last month.
The NFL suspended and fined San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York on Friday, announcing the penalties against the billionaire weeks after he was arrested in a prostitution sting in Ohio.
York has been suspended for six games and fined $500,000 for violating the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy, according to a statement from the league.
York has not attended 49ers games as the league has investigated him, meaning the missed games count toward his suspension, which will end on Oct. 20.
After arranging to meet a law enforcement member posing as a sex worker last month, York was arrested at a trailer park in East Palestine, Ohio.
He was jailed for two days and fined $1,150, later pleading no contest to charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
In a statement reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, York apologized to his family, team and fans of the 49ers, saying he made an "inexcusable mistake" and takes "full responsibility."
"What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family," York added in the statement. "While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one's failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better. Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don't take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead."
