NFL world reacts to Fred Warner's fines from Monday's game vs Commanders
Social media reacts to 49ers LB Fred Warner's hefty fines from Monday's game against the Commanders.
On Saturday, the NFL announced it fined San Francisco 49ers star linebacker Fred Warner $65,673 for two hits on Washington Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo in Monday night's 23-17 Niners win.
Officials initially ruled one play a penalty on the field, but then incorrectly picked it up. Washington fans were irate during Monday's game, as it was the latest in a recent series of questionable calls against the Commanders. San Francisco safety Malik Mustapha got away with an illegal hit against Washington wide receiver Stefon Diggs on the Commanders' first drive. It was on third down, and Washington had to settle for a field goal.
The fines against Warner were the NFL's admission that its officials got it wrong—at least twice. That doesn't mean it would have changed the result of the game. Washington had its chances, including scoring on a go-ahead fourth-quarter touchdown that was wiped out by an unnecessary facemask penalty on left guard Chris Paul—it was a correct call.
Still, the NFL world reacted to Warner's illegal hits and subsequent fines from Monday's game.
