Drake Maye hasn't looked anything like the 2025 version of himself so far in 2026.

After finishing as the runner-up in MVP voting last season, displaying precise passing, strong decision making and athleticism to scramble when necessary, Maye has had a lackluster opening stretch to his third NFL season.

Through two games, Maye was already tied for the league lead in interceptions. Then, on Sunday against the Jaguars , he had one of the most bizarre fumbles you'll see from a quarterback, letting go of the ball despite no pressure.

Here's a look at Maye's latest turnover and how it added to a concerning trend for the Patriots quarterback.

New England was on the road to face Jacksonville in Week 3, and after going scoreless on their opening drive, the Patriots got the ball back around the mid-way point of the first quarter.

After Rhamondre Stevenson picked up a first down, however, Maye had a strange fumble on the following play. He wasn't being pressured by any Jaguars defenders, and after faking a handoff and looking to throw deep, Maye simply let go of the ball while winding up his pass.

The ball fell to the ground, and DaVon Hamilton jumped on it for a fumble.

Maye's fumble against the Jaguars represented his fifth turnover already this season. No NFL player has more.

According to Matt McCarthy, 17 of the Patriots opponents' 23 points this season have come off Maye turnovers.

The Patriots quarterback threw three interceptions in one quarter against the Seahawks in Week 1, a loss for New England, then threw another pick against the Steelers with no touchdown passes in Week 2.

Turnovers are quickly growing into a significant concern for the young star after leading his team to the Super Bowl last season.
