New NFL Rumors on Cam Ward's Hot Seat as Titans QB1, Potential 'Fire Sale' at Trade Deadline
The 0-4 Tennessee Titans have endured a disastrous start to the 2026 season that's featured the team averaging just 13.8 points per game, the NFL's second-lowest mark. Quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, has thrown for just three touchdowns overall and 181.5 passing yards per game.
However, the expectation is that the Titans will remain with Ward under center. In addition, Tennessee isn't expected to hold a "fire sale" by the Nov. 10 trade deadline, according to The Ringer's Tom Pelissero .
"Two years ago, a former No. 1 pick, already playing for his third different play caller, got benched as losses piled up early in the QB's second NFL season," Pelissero wrote Saturday. "It turned out to be the best thing for Bryce Young in Carolina. Don't expect the Titans to do the same with Cam Ward, who will try to help Tennessee get its first win of the season Sunday against the Texans."
Tennessee is under new leadership with head coach Robert Saleh calling the shots and Brian Daboll running the offense. The early returns haven't been good, but it's also just four weeks into this new regime. Ward is already playing for his third head coach in a season-plus after Brian Callahan was fired in Oct. 2025 and Mike McCoy took over on an interim basis.
"The Titans want Ward to play through it all and build that same trust with Daboll, not search for quick fixes, as they continue to build up a roster that has as many first- and second-year players playing significant roles this season as any NFL team," Pelissero added.
"To that end, don't expect the Titans to hold a fire sale before the trade deadline even if the losses keep mounting. With running back injuries across the league piling up, teams have already called about running back Tony Pollard, and GM Mike Borgonzi has told them the RB is not available. It's always possible somebody could make a ridiculous offer before November 10. But Pollard is a locker room leader with a streak of four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and his presence will be critical as they continue to get Ward going down the right track."
Ward has shown signs of improvement of late. The Titans' offense got going late in their 12-7 loss to the New York Giants, with Ward guiding the team on drives of 91 and 70 yards. However, the second drive ended with a bad Ward interception in the end zone to finish the Titans' chances at victory.
Last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, Ward threw for 222 yards and rushed for 27 more in a 24-18 loss. He and rookie wideout Carnell Tate formed a great connection, with the ex-Ohio State star catching nine passes for 145 yards.
The Titans will now host the Houston Texans in a battle of winless teams on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
