New York Jets running back Braelon Allen merited high praise from one of the best at the position.
The Baltimore Ravens' Derrick Henry told Rich Cimini of ESPN he has tried to impart some wisdom to Allen and has been impressed by his work while filling in for an injured Breece Hall.
"Don't give no credit to me; he's his own man," Henry said. "I'm trying to be someone who can help him out in any way I can give advice.
"But, yeah, he's just a big, physical kid. I call him 'Manchild,' and I was able to catch a little bit of clips from the games he's played. He's doing a heck of a job being in that starting role and always knew he'd be ready for it, so I'm happy for him."
According to Cimini, the friendship between Allen and Henry began when the former was a freshman at Wisconsin. They have since trained together in the offseason, and the more experienced Henry is willing to provide any helpful advice when necessary.
"In my shoes, he's really the best you can get in terms of a guy, a connection, someone that can mentor and guide me through the process of my career," Allen said of the five-time Pro Bowler. "He's been great. I try to get every little nugget that I can about what he does. He doesn't slow down. I want to have a long career, too, so I try to soak up as much as possible."
With Allen getting featured like never before thanks to Hall's absence, all of the tutelage might be paying off.
The 2024 fourth-round pick has run for 253 yards and one touchdown over New York's last three games. He eclipsed the century mark for the first time in a 17-12 win over the Cleveland Browns.
Henry is a one-of-a-kind back in terms of his frame and speed. But the 6'1", 235-pound Allen did draw some comparisons to the Ravens star when he was coming out of college.
While he has a long way to go to reach Henry's status, Allen is at least making a strong case for himself to remain a No. 1 option moving forward.
