Sean McVay hopes Rams never play in Australia 'ever again'

It would make Sean McVay very happy if the Los Angeles Rams avoided playing in Australia again while he is head coach.

The Rams' much-talked-about trip Down Under ended in a 27-7 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers last week. It was a game to forget for McVay.

"I want to see us be present right now and move forward," McVay said Thursday . "That game is so far — it's almost like you try to do the 'Men in Black' thing where you say, 'Hey, I don't remember what happened. That was so long ago.' We're not playing in Australia ever again, I hope. Not because it wasn't a great atmosphere, that'll get taken out of context."

There were over 100,000 fans in attendance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the NFL's first-ever regular season game in Australia. It won't be the last time the league makes the trip as Brett Gosper, the NFL's head of Europe and Asia-Pacific, told the Australian Financial Review that there will be at least two more games over the next three seasons.

As McVay said, his sour experience had nothing to do with the country itself or everything outside of the game. As 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan this week said, it was tough to enjoy it all when you're focused on working.

The Rams head coach was back in his comfortable place this week: back home in Los Angeles as the team goes through a normal week of preparation as they host the New York Giants on Monday night .

"Bottom line is, I like the way that I feel of our preparation, eyes moving forward, chest out, chin up, eyes forward, and let's go be about it," McVay said. "Let's go prepare the right way. Let's have great focus and concentration. Let's have a great energy and an edge in which we prepare and compete with and then let's go be ready to go against a really damn good football team.

"What they looked like in Week 1, we got a great challenge ahead. That's what every week is. We're excited to compete. All we can do is really have a great day of preparation today."
