Packers-Panthers interrupted due to drone hovering near Lambeau Field
Both teams were required to head back to the sidelines for the delay due to safety concerns.
Thursday night's prime-time matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Carolina Panthers had a unplanned pause during the third quarter. With the Packers holding the ball while leading 20-10, the game was interrupted for several minutes as a result of a passing drone, according to the Amazon Prime broadcast.
The unauthorized drone had breached the edge of the stadium, leading the referees to pause the game for safety reasons. Per the broadcast, the teams were told to head back to their respective sidelines while they waited for the drone to leave, with the delay lasting several minutes.
Under Federal Aviation Admisitration (FAA) rules , drones are not allowed within 3 nautical miles of any stadium with more than 30,000 seats, with NFL games specifically mentioned in the guidelines; Green Bay's Lambeau Field has a capacity of 81,441. The rules for drones and model airplanes apply starting one hour before the game until one hour after.
Luckily, the Packers made sure the delay was worth it: On the very next play, quarterback Jordan Love found Josh Jacobs for a touchdown reception to give Green Bay a 27-10 lead. The Packers went on to win 27-19 .
